Psychology

IQ: 152 (Stanford-Binet)
Extrovert/Introvert: extrovert
Phobias/Fears: Her immediate physical phobia is to be buried alive. Beyond that she has a cadre of phobias and fears that mostly stem from her upbringing and her experiences during her last three years at Hogwarts. She is afraid of disappointing her father and her father dying. She is afraid of failure, defeat, and being imperfect.
Mental Health: Cho was raised in a traditional Chinese household. She is an only child and thusly, her parents expected much of her. She has a tendency to be judgmental of both herself and others and is somewhat concerned with appearances (although she is not as judgmental and concerned with outward appearances as her mother was). She was always secretly rebellious of her parents and their expectations and hid (and still hides from her father) any hobbies and/or activities deemed inappropriate for a proper Chinese young lady from them. There is a long tradition of guilt and high expectations in Cho’s family and culture.

Personality

Goals/Dreams: During her last year at Hogwarts Cho dedicated herself to her studies. She quietly achieved N.E.W.T.s in Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. Her secret dream was to be the Seeker for the Tutshill Tornadoes but her parents, especially her mother, would never have tolerated Cho making such a disgraceful career choice. So instead of pursuing her passion for Quidditch, she became an expert in transportation charms and magic.
Likes: cooking, flying, Quidditch, reading, the Tutshill Tornadoes, magical theory and research, casting and creating charms, riddles and brain teasers, romance
Dislikes: disorder, Muggle television, braggarts, lazy people
First Impression: She is a lovely young Asian woman with delicate features. She is popular and people are drawn to her beauty and status. Because of this, sometimes she is seen as a snob. On occasion people (usually women) are jealous of her charm, good looks, and intelligence.

Family

Parents: Edward and Cecilia Chang (Cecilia very recently deceased)
Spouse: n/a
Children: none
Siblings: none
Pets: none

Background

Occupation: She was until recently (November 2002) a Portkey specialist at the Portkey office in the Department of Magical Transportation.
Education: Cho graduated from Hogwarts in June 1997 with nine N.E.W.T.s.
Home: She lived at home with her parents in London until recently. She now lives in one of the town homes at the end of St. Brides Close by the Pool of Promise.
Finances: Cho is financially stable, neither rich nor poor. Her parents were financially stable as well until recently when her mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor and the older couple found themselves spending more and more money on Mrs. Chang’s medical needs.
Personal History: Cho finished up at Hogwarts quietly, as she threw herself into her studies and Ravenclaw activities during her seventh year. She played seeker again that year and shared the title of team co-captain with Roger Davies. She completed her time at Hogwarts with academic honors, although the school Quidditch Cup eluded her grasp. At her final match she did not bother to merely throw her broom to the ground; she broke it in half before storming off the pitch.

After she left Hogwarts she was offered the position of back-up seeker for the Tutshill Tornados and wanted desperately to accept the offer, but her parents, being very traditional Chinese parents, let her know in no uncertain terms that an athletic career would be unsuitable for someone of their daughter’s intelligence and social stature. Not wanting to disappoint them she reluctantly succumbed to her parents’ will and turned down the offer from her favorite team.

After Cedric Diggory was killed in part by the use of an illegal Portkey, Cho become fascinated with the particular charms that were involved in the development of Portkeys. She worked closely with her Hogwarts professors to learn the intricate charm work necessary to master the precise craft.

After her disappointment with the Tutshill Tornadoes, she decided to pursue her other passion and ended up taking a job at the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Transportation, Portkey office.

She was extremely proficient in creating Portkeys and joined the Portkey Research and Development Section. She was able to accurately charm a number of never-before-used objects as Portkeys and more impressively, the accuracy of her Portkeys allowed travelers to meet the point of arrival standards within six centimeters…a standard that gave her the status of Master Portkey Specialist. Over the years she developed and improved several Portkey theories.

Her father, Edward Chang, is a Healer in the Chinese tradition of magical medicine, practicing acupuncture, acupressure, and herbalism. He is of pureblood ancestry. Cho’s mother, Cecilia Chang, was a Muggleborn witch who was a dedicated housewife. Both Edward and Cecilia were born in Beijing, China. Theirs was a traditional arranged marriage. In May of 2002 Cecilia Chang was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. She was not expected to live more than six to twelve months. She died in November 2002.

Losses during the war: Her closest and most life-altering loss was the death of Cedric Diggory.
